Google made several announcements during its Made by Google event in New York on Wednesday, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, including the release of its Pixel Watch 4, equipped with a new AI-enabled Health Coach powered by Gemini.
The tech giant said its personal health coach is a sleep coach, fitness trainer, and health and wellness advisor.
The company said the offering is tailored to one's personal fitness goals and "real-ife circumstances" and can create personalized fitness and sleep plans to help wearers meet their goals.
The coach customizes a fitness plan based on goals, preferences and equipment and gives workout suggestions and metric targets. Workout plans are constantly adjusted based on data and daily metrics.
"And when life gets in the way, you can connect with the coach at any time to make adjustments, share how you are feeling and get advice," Google said in a statement.
"For example, if you tweak your back, tell the coach and get suggestions to adjust your workout."
The health coach also uses new sleep algorithms that more precisely detect sleep duration and stages, provide insights into weekly sleep patterns and supply a personalized sleep schedule.
For health and wellness, users can ask Gemini health-related questions, such as requesting tips on how to handle stress and what the best exercises are for weight loss.
A preview of the AI health coach will be made available to U.S. Fitbit premium users in October in a redesigned app with Fitbit trackers, smart watches and Pixel Watches.
In addition to the personal health coach, Google announced that Pixel Watch 4 also comes with improved battery life, with 15 minutes of charge providing 15 hours of use.
The Watch continues to include loss of pulse detection, announced last year, and all previous features already available to Pixel Watch users.
The Pixel Watch 4 comes in two sizes, and Noah Presler, group product manager at Google, said during the event that the Pixel Watch's improved heart rate accuracy "is on the level of a chest strap."
It also provides Precision Dual Frequency Dual GPS, a raise-to-talk feature and, for the first time, on-device satellite communications to contact emergency services while off the grid.
MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Google also announced Gemini is coming to cars, and that the company is working on glasses as well.
During the event, Google announced, in all, seven new Pixel devices, including its smartphone Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which includes IP68 water and dust resistance for the first time.
Additionally, the Pixel 10 phone will be available in Mexico for the first time.
Google announced a new feature on its Pixel 10 that uses AI to translate phone calls in different languages in real time in each speaker's voice.
For example, if one person speaks Spanish and the other speaks English, AI will translate the conversation in real time to the listener as though the person on the other end is speaking their language.
Pixel's built-in voice translator handles the conversations on the device so they stay private, the company said.
Additionally, a new Magic Cue feature on the Pixel phone uses Gemini to automatically provide information during messaging that it finds on other apps, such as calendar events or event locations.
Magic Cue can also search for photos if someone asks for a particular picture.
Google also released a Pixel Buds Pro 2 update, which includes loud noise protection and head movement detection.
Lastly, the company announced Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry has joined Google's team as its new performance advisor.
